Four Human Control Patterns

The toolkit does not assume that responsible AI requires manual approval of every output. It helps you determine when each of the following patterns is appropriate:

• Human-Led — AI supports analysis or preparation while a person performs and owns the decision.
• Human-Reviewed — AI creates a proposed output that a person validates and approves before use.
• Human-Supervised — AI performs recurring work within defined boundaries while people monitor performance and exceptions.
• AI-Executed with Guardrails and Escalation — AI completes low-risk, well-understood work while people retain operating authority, monitoring, and intervention.

How the method works

2. Define the work unit, score six oversight dimensions, apply override rules, and confirm the appropriate Human Control Pattern.
3. Design the workflow
4. Map the current and future workflow, assign AI authority, clarify human responsibilities, and define controls and escalations.
5. Prepare to implement
6. Identify adoption conditions, measures, dependencies, and actions required before pilot or operational use.

Standard Organizational Licence

For internal use within one legal organization, including unlimited internal projects, teams, workshops, and assessments. This licence does not permit use in paid client engagements.

Consultant and Facilitator Licence

For use in paid engagements with up to 10 client organizations during the 12 months following purchase. Completed client assessments and adapted outputs may be shared. Blank and editable toolkit files may not be redistributed.

Digital delivery and software
